How to enroll your student

MySchool@Kent offers full-time enrollment and flexible course pathways for middle and high school students. A La Carte Classes and other individual course options are available for high school students. Students in Kent County public school districts and Public School Academies usually begin with their local school counselor. Non-public and homeschool families can contact MySchool@Kent to discuss available options.

Step 1: Talk with your school counselor or administrator

Meet with your current school counselor or administrator to explore your options and discuss your student’s goals, schedule, transportation, and support needs.

• Complete the “Am I Ready?” questionnaire.
• Discuss whether full-time enrollment is the best fit, or whether a high school A La Carte / Individual Course option, an AP or NCAA course, credit recovery, or an additional class is the best fit.

Step 2: Your school counselor submits the enrollment referral

Your counselor submits the online enrollment referral, helps select classes, and sends the needed records to MySchool@Kent, including a transcript and, when applicable, 504 and Emergency Medical Plans.

If your student has an IEP, ask your sending school team to schedule any needed IEP update and share current support information with MySchool@Kent.

Step 3: Schedule the intake appointment

After the referral is submitted, a parent or guardian schedules an intake appointment. Your student attends the appointment with you. To schedule, email Deborah VanDyke or call (616) 447-2477.

Set up or access your PowerSchool parent account and complete the required permission, emergency, and medical forms. These items must be complete before orientation.

Step 4: Your student attends orientation

Once the referral, intake appointment, parent permission forms, and medical emergency forms are complete, your student may attend orientation.

• MySchool@Kent staff can help with orientation, parent forms, technology, pickup, PowerSchool, and Edmentum setup.
• Bring your driver’s license and plate number if you need a parking permit.

After enrollment: communication and family tools

These communication and account tools are for use after your student has been enrolled. They help families stay connected and support student progress.

• BrightChat: Watch for the welcome text from MySchool@Kent, download the app, and turn on notifications.
• PowerSchool: Use your parent account to review forms and monitor progress.
• Kent ISD email: Help your student check their official email each school day for messages and updates.
• SchooLinks: Have your student sign in with their Kent ISD Google account and complete the introduction.
• Edmentum: Help your student sign in, find assigned courses, and set up Family Sensei to view progress.

Additional parent support
